Time for a long overdue explanation of my absence, wouldn't you say?

Most of you know that my mother was diagnosed with cancer last year, and due to that, my husband and I decided to make a move back to Central Pennsylvania at the end of 2013. I'm both excited and exhausted to announce that things couldn't have gone more off-track.

When January rolled around, mom found out about needing another three rounds of chemo. As of this writing, she's still scheduled for the third, but we're not sure when she'll be on track to get it. Rest assured, she's doing well with it and feeling much better than she had when this whole mess started! I, however, haven't gotten the phones to stop ringing on assignments and appointments, as I've taken on more work of the counseling variety lately, to say nothing of the 8-12 hour days I was pulling at what should have been a part-time job through February! This was all timely though, as my husband's employers through the move did some heavy laying off after the holidays and he's finally just now found new prospects to start him next week.

This is also good because we recently found out we'll be expecting a new addition to the family come October!

So! What does all this mean for yours truly? Not much when it comes to art, which will always be something I do. And I'll certainly be continuing comic projects I already have on my agenda (Sylvanna of course, The Presider too), but for the future... who knows?

I love my comics, and I love teaching others about making comics - but I've come to the point in my life where I'm ready to focus on one book of my own only, and be a once-in-a-while helping hand to others in the industry, for the most part leaving them to their own ideas.

Things with my life at the moment should start settling down over the coming weeks as Matt gets adjusted to work and I take some time to get back to my freelance assignments once more! Thank you all for sticking around as we go through this wacky transition, and I look forward to getting back into the swing of regular updates, very soon!

All my Best,

Dawn

Hey guys --

I guess word got out that I'd be selling some of my Sonic pages over the holidays, but I had to hold back as people did *not* have money for them, which I totally understand. :)

So I'm thinking maybe next week would be a great time to put some of them up for sale. I'll also be Ebay auctioning one, at a lower price, and will be happy to put 25% of the profit on it toward my favorite charity, The Fisher House. What do you say to that?

Meanwhile, I'd like to again draw your attention to my secondary account, which is here: :icondmbest: and a little note that I've gotten back into the swing of making art dolls, for those of you interested in them. In fact, most of the things you can see in the gallery of that account are currently on sale.

Head to my Etsy shop, here: www.etsy.com/shop/dawnbest?ref…

I'll be integrating doll/mask/craft and art sales more into my online presence in 2014, so I hope those of you who've wanted to own one of my pieces can do so! :)

All my best, guys!

Hey gang!

Just going to drop a quick note here. First up, commissions which I'd wanted to start since moving back east, are still on hold as I wrap up an insane amount of work still on my plate. They WILL open soon, though. I had a few things come in from conventions and some leftovers I'd forgotten about, pop up again, but once stuff cools down, that'll be on the table.

Also, I found some oldschool Sonic art which I intend to have up for auction on eBay, soon. There will be a contribution to charity involved, as well, so this is as always, a good time to get in on a great cause.

And last but most important - VARULV will soon be returning!

I have come across some old inked pages which will finish up issue 9 (my magnum-opus tragedy, as it were) hopefully before the end of January 2014 so I can continue on with VARULV: Rise of the Wolf God. In preparation for this, the VARULV Wiki has been updated with a ton of new articles and as always, you can add to these if you like, right here: varulv.wikia.com

I have a lot of groovy things planned for our troupe of werewolf people, on the next go-around, including new locations, new enemies, new bad guys, and then some. There'll even be some new looks for our central cast, as I didn't want them to remain static. They will indeed be aging and experiencing new life events as time goes on. Really looking forward to sharing the designs and concepts I have in mind, in the coming months!

Stay tuned, and as always, love you kids!

Hey guys!

Well, we've officially moved from Columbus back to the East Coast. Not entirely settled yet, but I have an office set up and will be opening commissions again next week (yes I actually still have a few to finalize from last time I offered commissions, so... I'd best get on that!)

We're also back from NYCC! What an AWESOME time - I got to meet a ton of you guys and I loved every minute. If I haven't added you back on here yet, feel free to comment on this entry and I will do so, as I had a million watchers over the weekend, it seems, and it's hard to wade through alla' 'em. :)

Also, I will be at Cleveland Comic Con TOMORROW, Saturday the 19th. If you're in the Cleveland area, come out to say hey!

Talk soon - I still have a lot going on at the moment but things should be settling back down again, shortly!

All My Best,

Dawn

Hey all - exciting news!

I am now a teacher at Skillshare.com - for those of you who have ever wanted to take private lessons from myself… Now you can – via Skillshare.com! What is Skillshare you ask? Check out this video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=A9Nn_k…

Skillshare offers online courses for people who want to learn real trade-secrets at their own pace and without ever setting foot inside a classroom. Best of all, Skillshare classes are affordable at only $20 per course – definitely beating out the price of costly art schools which don't guarantee real experience from real-world cartoonists. I am so excited for this opportunity to share knowledge with a huge audience of students!

Class #1 on our most popular topic – Cartoon Coloring in Photoshop will teach you all you need to know about navigating Photoshop at the very basic level, in order to create the type of art I design for various projects and promotions. Class is in session October 10th, so sign up now by going here! Even better, I will be on-hand via the web to answer any questions and provide guidance to class participants!

Looking forward to seeing you there!
