Time for a long overdue explanation of my absence, wouldn't you say?
Most of you know that my mother was diagnosed with cancer last year, and due to that, my husband and I decided to make a move back to Central Pennsylvania at the end of 2013. I'm both excited and exhausted to announce that things couldn't have gone more off-track.
When January rolled around, mom found out about needing another three rounds of chemo. As of this writing, she's still scheduled for the third, but we're not sure when she'll be on track to get it. Rest assured, she's doing well with it and feeling much better than she had when this whole mess started! I, however, haven't gotten the phones to stop ringing on assignments and appointments, as I've taken on more work of the counseling variety lately, to say nothing of the 8-12 hour days I was pulling at what should have been a part-time job through February! This was all timely though, as my husband's employers through the move did some heavy laying off after the holidays and he's finally just now found new prospects to start him next week.
This is also good because we recently found out we'll be expecting a new addition to the family come October!
So! What does all this mean for yours truly? Not much when it comes to art, which will always be something I do. And I'll certainly be continuing comic projects I already have on my agenda (Sylvanna of course, The Presider too), but for the future... who knows?
I love my comics, and I love teaching others about making comics - but I've come to the point in my life where I'm ready to focus on one book of my own only, and be a once-in-a-while helping hand to others in the industry, for the most part leaving them to their own ideas.
Things with my life at the moment should start settling down over the coming weeks as Matt gets adjusted to work and I take some time to get back to my freelance assignments once more! Thank you all for sticking around as we go through this wacky transition, and I look forward to getting back into the swing of regular updates, very soon!
All my Best,
Dawn
